Frøydis Adele Knapstad is a goldsmith and jewellery designer working from Gudhjem on Bornholm — where each piece is shaped by hand in gold, silver, pearls and stones, close to the sea.
About the artist
Frøydis Adele Knapstad grew up on a small island in Norway. Today she finds her inspiration along the coast outside Gudhjem — on Bornholm, between the light, the water, and the quiet rhythm of the harbour town.
Goldsmith and jewellery designer Frøydis Adele Knapstad (b. 1971) comes from a family of goldsmiths. She developed a refined sense of materials and design early on, and her work has been shown by galleries and goldsmiths across Europe.
After her goldsmith examination in 1994 and jewellery design studies in London in 1995, she opened her own shop in Copenhagen — first on Store Kongensgade, later on Kompagnistræde. After seventeen years in the city, Knapstad moved the studio to Gudhjem in 2013.
A bicycle trip to Bornholm in 2002 changed the course of her life. She was drawn to the former fishing village on the east coast — to the nature, the special light, and the horizon above a town that slopes toward the sea. In Gudhjem, inspiration, expertise and craftsmanship came together.
Our story
In Gudhjem’s historic artist quarter, Frøydis works from a shop and active workshop a short walk from the water — between sky and sea.
Here, forms from nature are translated into jewellery with a careful eye for material, proportion, and the weight of a piece on the hand. Inspiration comes from the landscape, from myth and memory, and from the people who will wear the work.
Each piece is handmade using traditional goldsmith techniques — gold and silver, pearls and gemstones such as tourmaline, ruby and diamonds.

Every piece is formed, filed, and finished at the bench in Gudhjem — not outsourced, not rushed.
